All CCTV camera types have its unique offering for specific needs. There are two zoom options to see things a bit closer.  One is digital zoom and the next one is optical zoom. Digital zoom is more common feature and most recorder have this feature. With digital zoom we crop a selection of an image or camera feed to get it zoomed. This selection will be stretched watch it as it is a close image. While this somewhat useful its far blurrier and poor-quality look of the selection area. In a its not zoom in but just crop and stretch. To make it much more useful and to see more details in a footage cameras resolution should be 1080p or higher.

In Optical zoom cameras have varifocal lens which can be zoom in and adjusted to focus on that specific area. This way camera is actually looking closer unlike digital zoom and can produce full quality view.
